El 6 de Agosto de cada año, las profesiones, conmemoramos nuestro día. Pero muchos profesionales y el público en general desconocen la razón por la cual se ha tomado ese día como conmemorativo de las Ciencias Agropecuarias.
El 6 de agosto de 1883 se constituye en un hito de las Ciencias Agropecuarias de nuestro país. Ese día se crea en Santa Catalina, en Llavallol partido de Lomas de Zamora, la primera Escuela de Agronomía y Veterinaria y Haras de la Provincia de Buenos Aires (posteriormente denominado Instituto Agronómico Veterinario de Santa Catalina). Esta escuela es la primera que dicta estudios superiores en Ciencias Agropecuarias de Argentina.
En este solar hoy funcionan la Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias de la Universidad Nacional de Lomas de Zamora; el histórico Instituto Fitotécnico de Santa Catalina (UNLP) y el tambo de las Facultades de Ciencias Veterinarias y Ciencias Agrarias y Forestales (UNLP).
Por eso, en esta fecha, desde *FADIA* enviamos a todos los profesionales vinculados directamente con la producción agropecuaria como *Ingenieros Agrónomos, Ingenieros Zootecnistas, Ingenieros en Producción Agropecuaria, Médicos Veterinarios*, etc., un cordial y afectuoso saludo de reconocimiento a su labor cotidiana. Feliz día!!

GSP Soil Data Facility – Open call
The GSP Secretariat has launched the call for the selection of an institution or consortium of institutions to host the GSP Soil Data Facility (SDF). The GSP SDF is to provide technical and infrastructure support to the Global Soil Information System (GLOSIS), to be established as per the Pillar 4 Implementation Plan.
The SDF will be the technical backbone of the International Network of Soil Information Institutions (INSII), strengthening and supporting the sharing of interoperable soil data products. This includes capacity development, as well as the provision of technical tools and important elements for an operational web-based soil data infrastructure.
The call text provides further details about the tasks of the SDF and the selection criteria.
Applicants must comply with the selection criteria specified in the “Open Call – Global Soil Partnership Soil Data Facility”. Applications should be sent to the GSP-Secretariat@fao.org by 20 May 2017. The pre-screening of applications will be jointly conducted by the GSP Secretariat and Pillar 4 Working Group.
The final selection will be made by the 5th GSP Plenary Assembly, to be held from the 20th to the 22nd of June 2017. The appointment will be until 31 December 2020, with a possiblity of extension to be determined in agreement with the 8th Session of the GSP PA.

GSP fifth Plenary Assembly
The Global Soil Partnership’s 5th Plenary Assembly (GSP PA) will take place from 20 to 22 June 2017 at FAO headquarters in Rome. The GSP PA constitutes the decision-making body of the GSP and the main venue where all GSP partners come together to make important decisions about the global soil agenda, reviewing and prioritizing items in the work plan. Among the main highlights are the appointment of the GSP Soil Data Facility for a term of 3 years; the discussion of progress reports in relation to key dimensions of GSP (or GSP-induced) activities; efforts for resource mobilization and the future World Soil Day occurrences.
Within the framework of taking concrete actions in the fight against soil degradation, the GSP PA agenda will include a technical seminar on soil contamination and a policy-oriented workshop on the implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines for Sustainable Soil Management (VGSSM). In accordance with the GSP Rules of Procedure, the timetable and official documents for each item of the provisional agenda will be made available shortly on the GSP website. We encourage participation of all those who can play an active part in this cutting-edge process and help achieve our partners’ high expectations!
The GSP Secretariat invites participants to register for the 5th GSP PA meeting by the 30th of May 2017. Please note that the online registration tool requires the uploading of a recent passport-size digital photograph and a passport/ID scan. Any request for inclusion or modification of items on the Provisional Agenda should be sent to: GSP-Secretariat@fao.org by 20 May 2017.
