This includes capacity development, as well as the provision of technical tools and important elements for an operational web-based soil data infrastructure.
The call text provides further details about the tasks of the SDF and the selection criteria.
Applicants must comply with the selection criteria specified in the “Open Call – Global Soil Partnership Soil Data Facility”. Applications should be sent to the GSP-Secretariat@fao.org by 20 May 2017. The pre-screening of applications will be jointly conducted by the GSP Secretariat and Pillar 4 Working Group.
The final selection will be made by the 5th GSP Plenary Assembly, to be held from the 20th to the 22nd of June 2017. The appointment will be until 31 December 2020, with a possiblity of extension to be determined in agreement with the 8th Session of the GSP PA.

GSP fifth Plenary Assembly

GSP fifth Plenary Assembly

The Global Soil Partnership’s 5th Plenary Assembly (GSP PA) will take place from 20 to 22 June 2017 at FAO headquarters in Rome. The GSP PA constitutes the decision-making body of the GSP and the main venue where all GSP partners come together to make important decisions about the global soil agenda, reviewing and prioritizing items in the work plan. Among the main highlights are the appointment of the GSP Soil Data Facility for a term of 3 years; the discussion of progress reports in relation to key dimensions of GSP (or GSP-induced) activities; efforts for resource mobilization and the future World Soil Day occurrences.
Within the framework of taking concrete actions in the fight against soil degradation, the GSP PA agenda will include a technical seminar on soil contamination and a policy-oriented workshop on the implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines for Sustainable Soil Management (VGSSM). In accordance with the GSP Rules of Procedure, the timetable and official documents for each item of the provisional agenda will be made available shortly on the GSP website. We encourage participation of all those who can play an active part in this cutting-edge process and help achieve our partners’ high expectations!
The GSP Secretariat invites participants to register for the 5th GSP PA meeting by the 30th of May 2017. Please note that the online registration tool requires the uploading of a recent passport-size digital photograph and a passport/ID scan. Global Soil Partnership – World Soil Day 2016 : ‘Soils and pulses, a symbiosis for life’

Global Soil Partnership – World Soil Day 2016 : ‘Soils and pulses, a symbiosis for life’

The World Soil Day (WSD) campaign aims to connect people with soils and raise awareness on their critical importance in our lives.

The WSD 2016 will be celebrated on the 5th of December at FAO headquarters in Rome, FAO regional offices and through national and local events.

This collective effort is aimed at bringing attention to the benefits we receive from soils.

Pulses are among the major contributors to ensuring and increasing soil health, especially by fixing atmospheric nitrogen and freeing soil-bound phosphorous and making essential nutrients available to plants, improving soil structure and enhancing soil biodiversity. As we are nearing the close of the 2016 International Year of Pulses, the striking symbiosis between soils and pulses is timely and central to the WSD2016 campaign, not to mention helpful in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and implementing the Voluntary Guidelines for Sustainable Soil Management.

The GSP Secretariat encourages you to share the event in a variety of innovative ways to enhance public awareness of the critical influence soils and pulses exert on our lives.

We have prepared an array of stunning campaign materials to help create a buzz about World Soil Day 2016.

The success of the World Soil Day depends on you. Please tell your friends and colleagues about it and help disseminate the WSD campaign page.
